Reforestation

Trees are very important to our ecosystem. As part of it, I feel that we have to do our part and commit to the environment.

Have you ever had the opportunity to plant a tree? Well, if you haven't tried it, I invite you to do it. Without a doubt, this was an experience that I will never forget. When the teacher told us that we would have to go planting, I was very excited. I learned a lot about trees that week. We had some problems with the reforestation project that we had planned with our classmates and the teacher. Despite that, we managed to do it. Well not as we had thought but something is something. We did not have as much time as I would have liked since we had to find a place where they sold trees that were not very expensive. In this blog entry, I'm going to explain how it was to find the right tree to plant it; then, I'll share the challenge of finding the right place to plant my tree; and finally, how the process of planting a tree was.

When they told us that we couldn't go to the reforestation activity, I was very disappointed since I had really been waiting for it. After looking for a solution, we decided that everyone would plant the tree on their own. I had no idea where to go to buy a tree. With my classmates, we were looking for information about it. Near my friend's house there was a nursery, but the pine trees cost 100 Quetzales. I asked my aunt where she could get one cheaper and she told me that she had a loquat tree that she hadn't planted yet. I went to see it, and it was perfect for that occasion. My aunt told me that I had to spray it with insecticide before going to plant it so that it could grow well. That's what I did. The tree was already ready to be planted, the problem now was that I had no idea where to plant it.

It was very difficult trying to find a place. One of the options was to ask my neighbors if I could plant on their property since they had a very large space, but I ruled it out right away because I didn't think they would give me permission to plant it there. With my friends, we thought about the possibility of getting together one day and planting it near the house of one of them, but they could only go on the weekend and I couldn't because I had to return to zone 7. I was very frustrated because the day was approaching, and I was still thinking about where to plant it. Then I remembered that my uncle had a garden in his house, so I asked him if he could plant it there and he told me it was no problem. I was very excited because I was finally able to find a place to plant it.

My uncle's house was not so close to my house so my cousin had to drop me off at his house earlier. When I arrived, he told me where I could plant it and if I had everything I needed to do it. I have always liked flowers and trees but had never planted one. I didn't know how to do it, but my uncle helped me. He had all the necessary things to plant a tree so it was easier for me. The first thing I did was dig a hole so I could put the little tree inside. Then I introduced the tree and put more earth on it. It was much easier than I thought. It takes me about 15 to 20 minutes. In the end, it turned out pretty good. The good thing about planting it in my uncle's house is that I will be able to continue taking care of it and see it whenever I want.

Planting a tree was a great experience. I would have liked to go with my friends and classmates, but unfortunately it was not possible. Even so, I liked having the experience and spending time with my uncle. I have never been so interested in participating in reforestation activities. But now I'm sure I want to be part of at least one. Trees are very important to our ecosystem. As part of it, I feel that we have to do our part and commit to the environment.
